What the hell am I doing here?. This is a question which I ask my self at least once a year. Am I in the right line of business?

Do I still enjoy what I'm doing? Sometimes it feels I just don't have the energy left to go on. Everything seems boring and repetitive. Ever had this feeling? If so, it's time to reignite the fire. Why did you do this in the first place? What was so great about your job you even wanted to apply for it? Here are some things I do when I reach this point:

  • Go on a holiday. Just step back for a few days or weeks. Take your mind of everything. This will likely give you new insights and at the end of your holiday you will be overflowing with new ideas and can't wait to get back to work.
  • Read books or blogs about your profession. How has the industry you are working in developed the since your started your job? What is the new hot thing? Try to get up to date.
  •  Try to learn something new. In this day and age everything is moving at lightning speed so there is always something new you can learn which has to do with your profession.

If the above doesn't work: find a new job. Look for something which is really exciting. Life is too short to spend bored eight hours a day.

Got any tips how you reignite the fire? Let me know in the comments!
